My writing assignment for this class I’m in was to take verses from various chapters in Psalms, and put them together and try to make it sound right. It’s easy really. This is what Ive got :)

-Rachel

Psalm 59:3

See how they lie in wait for me!

Fierce men conspire against me,

For no offense or sin of mine, O Lord

Psalm 41:9

Even my close friend, whom I trusted,

He who shared my bread,

Has lifted up his heel against me.

Psalm 39:7

But now, Lord, what do I hope for?
My hope is in you.

Psalm 31:5

Into your hands I commit my spirit;

Redeem me, O Lord, the God of truth.

Psalm 61:1

From the ends of the earth I call to you,

I call as my heart grows faint;

Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

Psalm 29:10

Hear, O Lord, and be merciful to me;

O Lord, be my help.

Merry Christmas

holidays are here
and folks are spreading
Christmas cheer
people scatter and fret
to find the perfect gift
but soon forget
why we are here
the reason for season
is Christ Himself
not evergreens
or flashing lights
or a nativity scene on a shelf
so gather around the family
the young and the old
and tell the Christmas story
as the book of Luke unfolds

my smile

thoughts of you
tug the corner of my mouth
turning a frown upside down
as lame as that sounds
its the truth
ive lost my hair
ive got new marrow
…almost…
i need help with simple things
i feel pain
i feel shame
and disgust
and while i tie my scarf
i look in the mirror
my eye is red
popped another blood vesslel
a memory of you creeps in
instead of crying
i smile
it starts at the very tip corners of my mouth
they twitch upward a bit
then my chin gives in
my lips are a sideways "c"
then it hits my eyes
they twinkle at first
then they squint
before ya know it
my eyes are smiling too
next my nose joins the party
it wiggles into a little scrunch
its rather cute
not that im bragging or anything
thats just what you make my face do
my ears move
my cheeks blush
my eyebrows raise
my forehead wrinkles
seconds before
i could have cried
but you invaded my sad moment
now my whole face is smiling
thank you.
i love you.

our hands

im sipping cocoa
in a big mocha colored mug
with a handle as big as my hand
buoyant ‘mallows
milky foam
a good book
and a big mug
im enjoying warmth
by a big brick fire place
with a heat as big as my blanket
brilliant licks
smoking cedar
a good book
and a fireplace
im holding your hand
in a bright green park
with a love as big as the sky
beating hearts
dancing eyes
The Book
and our hands

how many?

how many moons will i watch with you?
how many nights will you hold me tight?
how many laughs will we forever share?
how many times will we deeply care?
how many days will i wake up and see
your handsome face right there by me?
how many meals will i cook for you?
how many moments will we engrave in our memory?
how many moons will i watch with you?
how many tears will we catch?
how many smiles will we match?
how many walks in the park will we snatch?
how many songs will we hatch?
how many moons will i watch with you?
how many dates will you escort me on?
how many evenings will turn into dawn?
how many secrets will we share?
how many adventures will we dare?
how many feelings could compare
to the love between such a pair
as us two?
how many moons will i watch with you?
how many hopes?
how many prayers?
how many dreams?
how many repairs?
how many joys
will be in our air?
how many moons will i watch with you?

gotcha!

you make me feel
oh! how i feel
beyond my wildest dreams
your words bring such joy
your hands such peace
your love… completion
the beginning
now that we have begun
the beginning has passed
and we are
a state between
then and forever
we can see it
not so far off
God will guide us
He will see us through
come with me
leap with me
splash in the puddles with me
i’m gonna live my life
and i want you as my wife

sick

no words
a mind so full
yet a complete blank
a million thoughts
that dont connect
a mosaic broken
a garden overrun
a religion jaded
with rituals and traditions
the doctors words
went into one ear
and never came out the other
yet they still bounce around my brain
like on a video game
never quite making it to the goal
instead it hangs
like a fog
and comes in bangs
like a gun
isolation
bald
help bathing
food in a tube
these are the phrases i recall

hallelujah, forgiven, hallelujah

Posted in poetry | No Comments »

when your feeling blue
and the world is bearing down on you
never fear
God Almighty is by your side
ever present
ever near
and when your life feels bittersweet
lay all your burdens
at His feet
and let Him carry the cross
and all your sins
because of the third day resurrection
despite all types of persecution
with a glorious hallelujah
you and i are forgiven!

dance

Posted in poetry | No Comments »

its not a matter of footsteps
nor a particular style of twirl
its a beat and a rhythm
a tune and a soul
its being surrounded
in a cloud
of notes
its a magic carpet ride
the breeze not caring for
style or grace
only love
and rhythm
its not a matter of a new dance move
nor a new song
rather, its a time and a rhyme
a cord and a soul
its being consumed
in a muse
of love
in an air balloon ride
the breeze not caring for
hip or cool
only love
and rhyme

the scream

the scream from outside
it made my hair curl
the agony in her voice
it made my skin bump
the terror in her throat
it made my heart leap
but what could i do?
what could i say?
when those around her
claim everything is ok
i know
when nothing is ok
ive had a few nothing is ok moments
days, weeks, months
and to hear a shriek ring
against the dead of night
pierce the sleeping sky
so as to make a new star
of red
of hatred
and im sure of this one
of love
this tells me nothing is ok
why do they falsely claim?
what have they to hide?
what part in her pain
did they play?
what role in her fear
did they fill?
i know
when nothing is ok
and that scream
that shriek
that absolute terrorizing agony
animated in her voice
says that nothing is ok
